Wesak
is the most important of the Buddhist festivals and it is celebrated
on the full moon in the month May. It commemorates the birth of Gautama
Buddha , and for some Buddhists it also marks his enlightenment and
death.
In
Penang, it is customary for Buddhists to visit local temples for
services and prayers, with offerings such as vegetarian food, candles
and flowers
This
year there will be a float procession organized by Malaysia Buddhist
Associaton.The float and candle light procession will cover a distance
of 7km. It will start from the Malaysia Buddhist Association in Burma
Road and proceed to Jalan Pangkor, Jalan Kelawei, Lorong Burmah, Jalan
Burmah, Peel Avenue, Jalan Macalister, Jalan Anson, Lorong Madras before
returning to Burma Road. The procession will start at 7.00pm.
